I just heard a man on the news say “landmark case as the US supreme court decides it is against the law to fire someone because of their sexuality.” Now here’s the thing: I am very pleased the supreme court decided this (even with that greasy fuck Brett Kavanaugh sitting among them – I still believe Dr Blasey Ford) – but why did it need to get to the supreme court decision. Who are the fuckers sitting there saying “no I DON’T believe we should work with gay people.” Who ARE these people and why are other people listening to them.
And that’s become the problem in the last few years – the fuckwits are getting louder and other fuckwits are listening to them.
Here’s the thing. I believe in debate. I believe in exchanges of opinion and discussion. But I believe in that in the context of “how do we make buses run on time” and “how do we get more varieties of baked beans.” Let me be loud and clear here; THERE IS NO DEBATE ON HUMAN RIGHTS.
Human rights are just that; our rights. Our rights to live and love and engage in whatever we choose to do with whoever we choose to do it with as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else or break any laws.
I looked up the definition of human rights as laid out by the United Nations. It reads, and I quote directly “Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. Human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more.”
There. Simple. Black and white words for an open and shut case. Right?
So why are there STILL people trying to tell other people who they can and can’t love? So here’s my idea. If you are one of those MASSIVE fucking assholes who has a go at someone about anything regarding their identity, you have to be punished. And the way you’re punished? You get that paragraph tattooed on your forehead, except backwards.
This serves two purposes. First purpose is that anyone who sees you on the street will know that you’re a dirty freedom of life denier and you got busted for it and they can judge you how they see fit. Remember, the court of law may judge you one way but the court of public opinion judges you differently.
The second reason is that if it’s backwards every day when you look in the mirror you’ll be able to read that paragraph. And maybe, JUST maybe, after a while, those words will start to sink in. Maybe you’ll be able to understand what the rest of us understand. That it doesn’t matter who loves who, it’s their right to do that. And your opinion about it means less than shit.
I understand I may have oversimplified this, and to those who are fighting for their rights, and their lives, every day I apologise if this has offended you. But human rights SHOULD be simple. Don’t ever let those who seek to destroy yours win.
Love is love. And if you don't think so - fuck you.
